Peace Council Prepares for Election 2024 with Identified Hotspots

Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Peace Council, disclosed that they have identified and monitored all potential hotspots for the 2024 December polls. He stressed the importance of daily monitoring as conflicts could arise unexpectedly. He highlighted that while some interventions have reduced conflict in certain areas, others have seen a rise in conflict levels. This information came out during his appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show on April 5.

“So we keep monitoring these things, and we have an eye on all these things. We have challenged all of the Regional Peace Councils to monitor these areas carefully, and a lot of work is going on in most of these places. “

Months ago, the Ghana Police Service declared that it considers every constituency in Ghana as a potential hotspot. They expressed their commitment to leave no aspect overlooked in guaranteeing security before, during, and after the imminent polls.

Supporting the motion, Chairman of the National Peace Council noted that Peace Ambassadors is on designation in these regions to advocate for peaceful conflict resolution methods. He elaborated that the Council organizes workshops and awareness campaigns in regions prone to conflict as part of its peace promotion initiatives.

“We provide training for Queen Mothers and young people. There are also engagements with various high schools. We have conducted training sessions for leaders of tertiary institutions. We are involved in all these communities and continuously engage with them,” he emphasized.
