Pochettino Being Considered For USA National Team Coaching Job

One of the candidates being contemplated as Gregg Berhalter’s successor as manager of the USA national team is Mauricio Pochettino.

Following the USA’s elimination from the Copa America group stage, 51-year-old Berhalter was fired.

Matt Crocker, the sporting director of US Soccer, has been in charge of finding a replacement.

Following strong speculation that he was close to being appointed, German team Hoffenheim released a statement on Tuesday from its manager, Pellegrino Matarazzo, who was born in New Jersey. In it, he stated he was devoted to the club.

Crocker was a Southampton player during Pochettino’s tenure at St Mary’s.

It is believed that the 52-year-old Argentine has communicated with US officials along with others. Despite the fact that the former manager of Tottenham, Paris St. Germain, and Chelsea would demand a large wage, sources claim that the idea of selecting him has not been rejected.

On September 7, the USA will play a friendly matchup versus Canada, the semi-finalists in the Copa America.

Before Berhalter was reappointed in June, Jesse Marsch, the coach of Canada and a former Leeds United manager, was also consulted about the USA position.

Following Berhalter’s firing, Marsch declared that he had “no interest” in the position and wouldn’t have without a change in US Soccer’s organizational structure.
