Prominent Ghanaian Economist Dies
Dr. Kojo Essiem Mensah-Abrampa, a renowned economist and development strategist, has passed away.
On Monday, July 1, 2024, in the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, he passed away.
He held the position of National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) Director General.
In the early hours of Monday morning, Dr. Mensah-Abrampa was taken to the hospital for treatment following what seemed to be a potential heart attack, according to family-affiliated sources.
He was declared dead by hospital staff as soon as they arrived, according to a Graphiconline article.
Tributes from the government, academics, and development community have been flooding in since his death, which sent shockwaves across the community.
With 28 years of expertise, Dr. Mensah-Abrampa was a well-respected authority in the fields of economics and development planning.
He was a lecturer who had experience working for many different agencies, such as the World Bank and the UNDP.
Ghana’s development program was greatly influenced by his leadership at the NDPC.
