Renard Returns As Saudi Coach Following Mancini’s Departure

After Roberto Mancini left, Herve Renard was reappointed as Saudi Arabia’s manager.

In the 2022 Qatar World Cup group stage, the Frenchman Renard, who coached the Saudi men’s team from July 2019 until March 2023, guided them to an incredible victory over eventual tournament winners Argentina.

In order to coach France’s women at the 2023 World Cup and this year’s Olympics domestically, the 56-year-old resigned the position.

After the Italian agreed to terminate his contract with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, Mancini took his position as head coach of Saudi Arabia.

Mancini, 59, had a challenging tenure as manager of Saudi Arabia after leaving his position as head coach of Italy in August 2023.

“I am back,” Renard said in a video posted on the Saudi national team’s X account.

“Did not intend to leave, but when your country knock on your door, you have to respond.

“I did not finish my story with Saudi yet.”

Renard’s second spell in charge will begin with World Cup qualifiers away to Australia and Indonesia in November.
