Salah Says This Is His Last Year At Liverpool

According to Mohamed Salah, this is his “last year” at Liverpool, and no one at the club has discussed a new deal with him.

The 32-year-old scored in the Reds’ convincing 3-0 victory against Manchester United on Sunday. His contract at Anfield is scheduled to expire in the summer.

After the game, Salah stated he had approached it as if it were his final game at Old Trafford.

He talked to Skysports:

“I was coming to the game, I was saying, ‘look, it could be the last time’,”

“Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season’.

“I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”

When asked about Salah’s comments, manager Arne Slot said:

“It’s a lot of ‘if’. At this moment he is one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours and he played really well.

“I don’t talk about contracts from players but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.”

Salah allegedly signed a new three-year contract in July 2022, making him the best paid player in the club’s history at about £350,000 per week.

Last September, Liverpool turned down a £150 million bid for Salah from Al-Ittihad.

Salah had a record-breaking afternoon at Old Trafford, having now scored in each of Liverpool’s first three games of the season:

Of Liverpool’s previous 23 Premier League goals against Manchester United, Salah has either assisted (6) or scored (11). Compared to the Red Devils, the Egyptian has participated in more goals than any other player in the competition.
In nine appearances for Liverpool across all competitions at Old Trafford, he has tallied ten goals. After Alan Shearer (10 goals at Elland Road), he is the only player in Premier League history to score ten or more goals at a single away venue.
In five consecutive away Premier League games against Manchester United, Salah is the only player with five goals.
