Salis Abdul Samed, a midfielder, has been loaned to AFC Sunderland by French Ligue 1 club RC Lens for the duration of the season.
The Ghanaian international decided to sign with the English Sky Bet Championship outfit despite receiving attention from many French teams.
Abdul Samed, who inked a five-year contract with Lens in June 2022 after joining the team for an estimated €5 million, made an impression right away when he scored his first goal in August of the same year.
Abdul Samed made 39 games in the previous season, including in the Champions League and Europa League, but over the summer, new manager Will Still lost interest in him.
The midfield player was linked to FC Nantes, Stade Brestois, and AS Saint-Étienne, but on transfer deadline day, a move was completed with Sunderland, who are currently led by former FC Lorient manager Régis Le Bris. There is no opportunity for a permanent transfer in the loan arrangement.
Abdul Samed is on his way to England to join his new team after completing his medicals in France.
Abdul Samed, who Transfer market currently values at €8 million, has been left out of the Black Stars roster for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Angola and Niger.
