Sammi Awuku Breaks Ground for GH¢4m Mampong Coronation Park Reconstruction

Sammi Awuku, Director General of the National Lottery Authority and NPP parliamentary candidate for Akuapim South, has initiated the GH¢4m reconstruction of Mampong Coronation Park. The upgraded facility will feature a FIFA-standard football pitch (96×66 meters), 400 spectator seats, VIP sections, dressing rooms, floodlights for night games, and secure fencing. The project is set to be completed in three months.

After the event on Thursday, July 25, 2024, Sammi Awuku spoke with reporters and stated that the reconstruction was done at the traditional authorities’ request to update the pitch and provide recreational opportunities for the Mampong community.

In addition, he asked the contractor to follow the project timeline.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana, built a few football fields in district capitals to promote football, including the Mampong and Sunyani Coronation Parks.

The Okyeame of Mampong claim that the Black Stars trained in Mampong Coronation Park, which was also their final field before winning the 1982 African Cup of Nations.
