Samuel Inkoom Appears In Court Over Alleged Visa Fraud Case

An Accra Circuit Court has indicted former Black Stars footballer Samuel Inkoom with defrauding by false pretenses.

In order to obtain a visa for travel to the Netherlands, the 34-year-old allegedly collected $3,500 from student Benjamin Opare Addo, but he never fulfilled the pledge.

Before the court, which was presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, Inkoom entered a not guilty plea to the charges.

He was given GH¢50,000 bail with one surety and is scheduled to appear in court again on December 30, 2024.

Citing that the accused had returned GH¢7,000 and was working to return the remaining GH¢25,100, Inkoom’s attorney argued for bail.

Additionally, the defense emphasized Inkoom’s stance and his likelihood of reappearing in court.

In September 2023, Inkoom, posing as the proprietor of S. Inkoom Travel and Tour Company, persuaded Addo that he could obtain a visa to the Netherlands for $3,500, according to the prosecution, which was headed by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer.

From September to November 2023, Addo made installment payments totaling GH¢32,100.

After Addo made several fruitless attempts to get his money back or get the visa, the court heard that Inkoom had not delivered the promised document within the prearranged time frame. The police were then notified of the situation.

After being taken into custody on January 11, 2024, Inkoom acknowledged the crime and refunded GH¢7,000, but he did not repay the remaining GH¢25,100.
