“Sue me”: Ablakwa Dares Freddie Blay

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the NDC MP for North Tongu, has defiantly responded to a legal threat from Freddie Blay, the former NPP National Chairman.

Ablakwa challenged Blay to sue him, insisting he won’t retract his statements or apologize. On Sunday, June 16, Ablakwa reaffirmed his position on social media, urging Blay to start legal action immediately rather than waiting for the one-week ultimatum to expire.

The Member of Parliament expressed unequivocally that he is still adamant and unrepentant about the accusations made against Mr. Blay and his family.

The conversation comes after Ablakwa accused Blay’s family of being involved in “state capture.”

Ablakwa seems unfazed by the possibility of legal action and challenges Blay to move quickly to settle the dispute in court.

The MP posted:

“I cannot retract the truth, Mr. Freddy Blay. Since you are getting no retraction from me, please go to court now — don’t wait for one week.”

“After our Tuesday, 18th June 2024 ‘Hands Off our Hotels Demonstration’ — Ghanaians should expect more unimpeachable exposés on how the Labadi Beach Hotel lost control over its beachfront to the Blay brothers,”

Background story

Freddie Blay, former NPP National Chairman and GNPC Board Chair, has given MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, TV3, and Johnnie Hughes one week to retract allegations against him and his family. Blay denies claims of state capture, asserting his children legally bought beachfront property from the LA Council, not Labadi Beach Hotel management.

Blay accuses Ablakwa of spreading false propaganda to damage his family’s reputation. Ablakwa alleged that top NPP officials, including Blay and his sons, were involved in a state capture scheme, claiming their acquisition of the beachfront hindered Labadi Beach Hotel’s control over its property.

Blay responded that his sons initially negotiated with the hotel but ended up buying the land from the La Traditional Council. He defended their actions as legal and questioned why the hotel hadn’t contested the ownership in court.

On the other hand, Mr. Blay gave TV3 host Johnnie Hughes and North Tongu MP Johnnie Hughes a week to apologize for the allegations of state capture.
