Surgeries at Korle Bu Hospital Called Off Over Dumsor

Numerous crucial surgeries set for Monday, April 29, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been postponed owing to intermittent power cuts (dumsor). Patients requiring tumor surgeries were brought back to the wards as doctors became aware of the unpredictable power supply.

Speaking anonymously to Citi News‘s Fred Duhoe, a doctor stressed the severity of the situation, emphasizing the inability to jeopardize patients’ lives, particularly in critical cases like these. The decision to cancel surgeries underscores the significant impact of power outages on the hospital’s ability to conduct essential medical procedures safely and effectively.

Patients were left stranded on different floors for over an hour due to malfunctioning lifts at the Korle Bu facility.

Doctors are reportedly disturbed as sources indicate that the generator is also not functioning.

A patient who also spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “This is the second time my surgery was cancelled. The first was because the oxygen machine wasn’t working. Today, it’s due to power fluctuations. I’m really scared, but what can I do? I leave everything to God.”
