Ignatius Osei Fosu, the assistant coach of Sudan, has expressed concerns on the state of the training grounds in Ghana in advance of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying tournament.
The Sudanese national team, known as the Falcons, has been getting ready for their forthcoming game against the Black Stars at the St. Thomas Aquinas pitch since arriving in Ghana on Monday.
On Thursday, the two teams will play each other in the first leg of the doubleheader.
Osei Fosu voiced his displeasure with the condition of the training pitch to the media, stating that it might affect their performance.
He said:
“Preparations have been decent overall, but our main issue is the training pitch. It hasn’t been up to standard, but we have to manage. We haven’t trained at the Accra Stadium yet, but the St. Aquinas pitch is far from ideal”
“If the pitch at the Accra Stadium is anything like the one at St. Aquinas, we might be in for some poor-quality football.”
On October 14, the second leg of the match is expected to take place in Libya at the Martyrs of February Stadium. Sudan is presently two points ahead of Ghana in their group.
