Thomas Tuchel has agreed to take over as manager of England.
According to Sky Germany, Tuchel and the FA have agreed to an 18-month contract that will begin on January 1.
The FA has not yet commented on this, but it would mean that Lee Carsley would continue to serve as interim manager for the Nations League games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland that take place next month.
Confirmation might occur as soon as Wednesday, when Tuchel and the Football Association held advanced talks that moved quickly forward on Tuesday. A press conference has been scheduled for 1.30 pm at Wembley.
The FA has not responded to several stories that associate the former Chelsea manager with the post that will become vacant after Euro 2024 due to Gareth Southgate’s departure. However, since last month, chief executive Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott have been in contact with Tuchel.
The 51-year-old would succeed Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello as the third non-English person to occupy the position.
The German has managed Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea to Champions League victory in 2021, giving him a wealth of elite-level expertise.
The news comes after a week of similar claims in German media that suggested the FA had also reached out to Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City.
The Football Association (FA) had stated from the outset of its hiring in July that nationality would not be a factor in its selection of the most suitable candidate.
Carsley, the U21 coach, has been temporarily in command of the senior squad during their autumnal Nations League matches.
Carsley was regarded as a potential candidate for the role, but in recent days, rumors about the role have returned due to his lack of clarity about his personal goals.
