Truck Driver Arrested In Connection With Latest Train Incident

The Ghana Police Service has taken into custody the driver of a Hyundai truck with the license plate GS 9018 – 20. The driver is suspected of being responsible for an accident that involved the recently imported train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line. This incident occurred during a test run of the train on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

According to the preliminary findings of the investigation released by the Police, it was determined that the driver of the Hyundai truck allegedly abandoned the vehicle on the railway track. This reckless act resulted in a collision between the truck and the train.

The Police emphasized that their initial inquiries indicated the negligence of the truck driver as the root cause of the accident. By leaving the truck unattended on the railway line, the driver directly contributed to the collision with the newly imported train.

Further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing, and the Police have assured the public that appropriate legal actions will be taken against those found responsible for the incident.

“Police investigation into the incident continues.”

The truck driver reportedly encountered trouble while delivering cement blocks, leading to the vehicle becoming lodged on the railway track after failing to navigate a pass-through beneath a bridge.

Minister of Railways Development, Peter Amewu, stated that efforts are underway to address the damage sustained by the train, with engineers currently engaged in repair work.
