Two ex-convicts jailed 34 years for robbery, rape and causing harm.

A 20-year-old ex-convict Akwasi Agyemang has been sentenced to 25 years in prison with hard labour by the Circuit Court in Bekwai, Ashanti region for robbery.

Agyemang robbed and raped an 8-month pregnant teenager in her residence at Feyiase on August 25, 2024.

The victim raised an alarm, and Agyemang was apprehended with the help of the Assembly member for the area.

He pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and is awaiting trial for the rape charge, with the docket sent to the Attorney General’s office for advice.

In a related development, the same court sentenced 23-year-old tricycle rider and ex-convict Kwabena Ofori to nine years in prison for causing harm to a driver at Beposo within the Bekwai Municipality.

Ofori had threatened to harm the victim due to suspicions of a sexual relationship between the victim’s younger brother and his girlfriend.

He was caught brutalising the victim and escaped but was later arrested at the Kumasi Central Prison, where he was serving a separate jail term.

Ofori pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 9 years in prison with hard labour.
