US Rapper Lil Durk Arrested In Alleged Murder-for-Hire Scheme
The BBC’s US partner, CBS News, reports that Grammy Award-winning American rapper Lil Durk has been detained on suspicion of murder-for-hire.
The celebrity, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, was arrested Thursday night in Broward County, Florida, according to police documents obtained by US media. He is currently being held without bail.
The arrest was made a day after it was announced that five members of Banks’ hip-hop group, Only The Family (OTF), had been accused in Chicago in relation to a gunshot that murdered rival rapper Quando Rondo’s cousin in 2022.
Since 2019, Lil Durk has had six albums in the top five of the US Billboard chart. He has also worked on successful tracks with well-known artists including Drake and J Cole.
Chicago rapper Lil Durk, founder of OTF, has been charged with organizing a 2022 shooting in Los Angeles as retaliation for the 2020 death of emerging rapper King Von. The charges were later dropped, and an unnamed co-conspirator offered money and lucrative music opportunities to anyone involved in killing Quando Rondo. In 2022, some of the accused men allegedly shot at a car with Quando Rondo, his sister, and cousin Saviay’a Robinson. The mother of another Chicago rapper, FBG Duck, filed a lawsuit accusing Durk, OTF, and King Von of being involved in the 2020 death of Rondo. In 2019, charges including attempted murder were dropped following a non-fatal shooting in Atlanta.
