Wontumi TV’s Gordon Asare-Bediako Granted Bail After OSP Holds Him In Custody

Gordon Asare-Bediako, a well-known journalist for Wontumi TV, was released on bail after being detained by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Widespread reactions were sparked by reports that Asare-Bediako was jailed on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, under unexplained circumstances.

According to reports, he made accusations against the Special Prosecutor, which may have contributed to his detention. According to Asare Bediako, Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, wanted a private plane for his own use from the former Akufo-Addo administration.

Concerns over press freedom and the treatment of media professionals were raised by the outpouring of solidarity from other journalists who took to social media to demand his immediate release when he was detained.

The OSP set bail at five million Ghanaian cedis with sureties.

The case continues to attract public attention as Ghanaians await further clarification from the OSP regarding the circumstances of his arrest and any potential charges.
