Bayern Munich and Liverpool FC are leading in the race to win the signature of Xabi Alonso as club manager.
The Leverkusen boss is slightly bent towards Bayern in case he decides to exithis current club.
There is no guarantee on Xabi Alonso leaving Leverkusen but there is the probability of his departure if he succeeds earning the league title with the club. His former playing clubs Bayern Munich and Liverpool FC are the known options in that scenario. Formal negotiations are yet to start on the part of the two leading suitors.
Xabi Alonso has had a thrilling and tremendous season with Bayer Leverkusen this season with a comfortable lead in the race to claim the Bundesliga title. His managerial skills have attracted many European clubs in need of managers for the next playing season.
The club captain for Leverkusen Lucas Hradecky spoke on the possibility of Xabi Alonso departing from the club.
“That’s our wish and dream, for him to stay, but no-one would be angry if he wins the Bundesliga and decides to go another route”, Hradecky said.
“We see on a daily basis that he loves to be in Leverkusen. He enjoys Dusseldorf where he lives. From another point of view: How can you make it better than this season?
“There’s a lot to ponder but he’s a gentleman to make the right decision and only he knows what’s best for him.
“But the atmosphere he’s brought in Leverkusen, we didn’t have it before. I think it comes from the way he has experienced football. In Madrid, Liverpool – that’s the level we strive for every day. It was [down] when he came but it’s up here right now. The hype is definitely justified.”
