Laryea Kingston Steps Down As Black Starlets Coach

Laryea Kingston, a former Black Stars player, has announced his resignation as the Under 17 coach of Ghana.

This is effective following the U-17 WAFU Zone B competition.

Following Ghana’s 2-1 semifinal loss in the WAFU B competition, which also prevented them from making it to the Africa Cup of Nations the following year, the former Ghana international made an announcement on Saturday.

Kingston announced his departure with emotion and conveyed his disappointment in a post-match press conference.

He highlighted his commitment to the nation as a coach and player.

Kingston disclosed that he made the decision to step down while the team was traveling to Russia for the U-16 championship.

He said:

“This six or seven months, I have given my all. I have done my part as a technical person,”

“After we returned from Russia, that was when I decided whether we win the tournament or not, I am moving on. So in this case, I am resigning from my role as the U-17 coach after the tournament.

“I have made that decision already before the tournament started but the explanation will come out later,”

After taking over as assistant coach in April, Kingston led the squad over a run of play that featured some of the best youth football in Ghana, amassing 54 goals in 18 games.

The Black Starlets will continue compete for third place in the event despite being eliminated.
