Barcelona Striker Raphinha Admits To Considering ‘Quitting’ Football

Barcelona forward Raphinha has revealed that he contemplated quitting football during a challenging period in his career.

The 27-year-old Brazilian, recognized for his talent and adaptability, admitted to thoughts of walking away from the sport despite his productive stints with Leeds United and in La Liga, where he has garnered goals and assists.

While on international duty at Copa America, Raphinha talked to the media about his plans to call it quits on his career.

He said:

“Recently I thought about leaving everything because of personal and professional problems. I thought about giving up, quitting football, because I didn’t need to go through some mental problems, and some difficulties and aggression from the media or fans.”

Thankfully, Raphinha’s May birth of a son, Gael, gave him comfort and redoubled his resolve.

“To imagine that one day my son can see me as an inspiration in football, not being the best in the world, but as a reference, that is worth a lot,”

After a successful season with Barcelona, Raphinha will team up with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo of Real Madrid this summer to represent Brazil in the Copa America as a potent offensive trio.

The country is in Group D and will play Paraguay and Colombia following their opening match against Costa Rica.
