With 19 goals, Stephen Amankona of Berekum Chelsea finished the 2023–24 Ghana Premier League season as the league’s top scorer.
Leading the league by three goals over Dreams FC’s Agyenim Boateng Mensah and Kotoko’s Steven Mukwala, who were level at 14 goals apiece, Amankona faced Heart of Lions in the championship match.
Amankona maintained his lead despite Boateng’s incredible five-goal performance in their penultimate encounter against the Real Tamale United (RTU), who had already been demoted.
Amankona scored twice in an entertaining final game at Golden City Park to secure a 2-2 draw between Berekum Chelsea and Heart of Lions. These important goals gave him the Golden Boot and guaranteed him the top scorer in the league.
Amankona replaces Abednego Tetteh, the Bibiani Gold Stars’ best scorer from the previous campaign, who netted 18 goals.
Berekum Chelsea had a great season, finishing third, only behind FC Samartex and Accra Lions, thanks in large part to Amankona’s remarkable play.
