Gallagher Returns To Chelsea As Atletico Deal Delays

Conor Gallagher, whose Atletico Madrid deal is still up in the air, is anticipated to resume training at Chelsea’s Cobham training facility on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old England international spent five days in a Madrid hotel before being photographed on Saturday at the La Liga team’s Metropolitano Stadium. Despite this, he has not been allowed to finalize his £33 million transfer.

It was put on hold after Chelsea’s £34.5 million agreement to acquire Spanish striker Samu Omorodion on Sunday fell through due to personal issues.

After paying £81.5 million for Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez on Monday, the Spanish team will need to make a significant sale in order to finance their acquisition of Gallagher.

Although the Gallagher deal is still in jeopardy, it is not currently seen as off.

Gallagher’s departure might yet be salvaged if Chelsea signs Portugal attacker Joao Felix from Atletico, but a deal must first be reached on the price.

Felix, who was loaned to Chelsea for six months in 2023, is prepared to rejoin the team.

However, Gallagher’s deal is probably going to fall through if a price cannot be worked out for Felix.

With only 11 months left on his contract, Gallagher is a free agent and Chelsea wants to sell him to prevent losing him.

Gallagher, who led Chelsea to victory throughout a large portion of the previous campaign, played five games as England advanced to the final of Euro 2024.

Atletico had uploaded a photo of Gallagher at their stadium on Saturday.
