Richard Ofori, the goalkeeper for Ghana, has traveled to South Africa in order to complete his free agent transfer to AmaZulu of the PLS.
After his contract with the Orlando Pirates expired in June 2024, Ofori broke away, and he spent the summer training alone to get ready for his next challenge.
Since 2018, the 30-year-old has played a significant role in South African football. He began his career with Maritzburg United, where he rapidly rose to the top of the league’s goalkeeping rankings.
Due to his exceptional accomplishments in Maritzburg, he was invited to join one of the most prominent clubs in South Africa, Orlando Pirates.
Ofori was essential to the Pirates’ MTN 8 Cup success during his tenure there. He helped the team defeat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 in the championship match, ending the team’s six-year wait for a significant trophy.
Ofori has appeared in more than 100 games during his career with both Maritzburg and the Pirates.
He starts a new chapter with AmaZulu, a team hoping to improve on their 11th-place result from the previous campaign and earn a top-eight berth to advance to the MTN 8 competition.
Ofori, who has 33 caps for Ghana in international competition, offers a plethora of experience to his new team. His goal is to assist AmaZulu in continuing their impressive 2021–2022 campaign, in which they advanced to the CAF champions league group stages and finished as MTN 8 runners-up.
Ofori’s last appearance for the Ghana national team came at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in a match against Mozambique.
