During the Los Angeles Lakers’ season opening against the Minnesota Timberwolves, LeBron James and his son Bronny made NBA history by becoming the first father-son team to play together on the same court.
The much awaited moment arrived when coach JJ Redick introduced the two with four minutes remaining in the Lakers’ 110-103 triumph in the first half.
When the two took the floor, the Lakers were ahead 51-35, and the sold-out audience at the Crypto.com Arena erupted in cheers.
The two also shared the court during the Lakers’ preseason matchup with the Phoenix Suns earlier this month.
“It’s always been family over everything,” LeBron said alongside Bronny after the game.
“I lost a lot of time because of this league so to be able to have this moment where I am working still and I can work alongside my son, it’s one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever got from the man above and I’m going to take full advantage of it.”
Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr., who created Major League Baseball history as father and son while playing for the Seattle Mariners in 1990–1991 were at the courtside to witness the James double act.
The 20-year-old Bronny ended up playing three minutes in the first half, grabbing an offensive rebound and missing both of his field-goal attempts.
Before the half, LeBron played 17 minutes and finished with eight points and three rebounds. After 35 minutes, he finished the game with 16 points.
In June, Bronny, a second-round draft selection from the University of Southern California, joined the Lakers.
LeBron, 39, is a four-time NBA champion and the league’s all-time leading scorer.
The veteran, who is currently in his 22nd NBA season, has not yet stated when he intends to retire.
After Bronny joined the team, he inked a new two-year contract with the Lakers.
