Following his Saturday vehicle accident, West Ham forward Michail Antonio had surgery to repair a fractured lower limb, the team confirmed.
In a statement, the Hammers said that he will be “monitored in hospital over the coming days” and thanked the emergency services and first responders for their care.
The 34-year-old Jamaican international was rushed to a hospital in central London after being forced out of his vehicle following a collision in Epping.
On Saturday night, West Ham reported that he was “conscious and communicating” and that his health was stable.
With 68 goals in 268 league games, Antonio is the team’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League.
“Everyone at the club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday’s news,” the West Ham statement continued.
“The club will provide further updates when appropriate.”
After receiving reports at 13:02 GMT on Saturday, the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said that it had arrived at the scene of the collision and had freed a man who was stuck in his vehicle by 13:45.
At the moment, it was unknown how seriously Antonio had been hurt.
Later, Essex Police announced that they were looking into a serious Ferrari crash and urged anyone with dashcam evidence or witnesses to come forward.
Following a Hammers statement on X, the Premier League and top teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City all responded with messages of support for Antonio.
Antonio scored his lone goal in West Ham’s 4-1 victory over Ipswich on October 5th, and he has played in all 14 of the team’s Premier League games this season.
His recuperation time is unknown as the Hammers get ready to meet Wolves on Monday at 20:00.
