Jerry Afriyie Completes Move To Al Qadsiya, Expected Loan To CD Lugo In Progress

Jerry Afriyie, a Ghanaian striker, has officially joined Al Qadsiya of Saudi Arabia from Thoughts FC.

The 20-year-old will play the rest of the season on loan at CD Lugo, a third-tier team in Spain, after agreeing to a deal with the team till 2028.

Over the past year, Afriyie has emerged as one of Ghana’s most promising young athletes, contributing significantly to the country’s gold medal win at the African Games.

His status as a rising star was further cemented when he scored the game-winning goal in the final against Uganda.

He became well-known in 2024 after winning Best Player in the WAFU B U-20 Championship in Togo, when Ghana placed second to Nigeria.

With five goals in a row, Afriyie also won the Golden Boot for the tournament.

Afriyie made history when he was called up to the senior national squad, becoming the first player from Ghana’s third-tier league to do so.

He scored a goal in a close 2-1 loss to Niger in November 2024 to make his debut for the Black Stars during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications.

Several clubs were interested in the striker because of his outstanding achievements, but he finally decided on Al Qadsiya, who are presently in third place in the Saudi Professional League standings.

It is anticipated that Afriyie’s loan to CD Lugo will give him invaluable international experience in preparation for his Al Qadsiya debut the following season.
