CK Akonnor Tips Otto Addo To Achieve Success With The Black Stars

With Otto Addo back in charge, former Black Stars coach CK Akonnor is upbeat about the team’s prospects.

In his first two competitive games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Addo defeated Mali and the Central African Republic, demonstrating his remarkable start.

Akonnor gave the team high marks for their performance, particularly for their away victory over Mali. He mentioned how well the attacking line performed in counterattack scenarios, which added to a strong showing.

The team’s three-goal performance in the second game was also praised by the former Asante Kotoko manager, who saw it as a noteworthy achievement.

He said:

“It is very hopeful. I saw the match against Mali; it was an away match, and the way we played was solid. I was very happy with our attacking line, the way we soaked up pressure and counter-attacked,” he told Citi Sports.

“The second match saw our team score three goals. It’s been a while since we scored such goals, so we need to appreciate it. Of course, there are areas that need improvement, as the coach himself mentioned, but I think the future is hopeful,”

The Black Stars moved up to second place in Group I with nine points after defeating Mali 2-1 in Bamako and then thrillingly winning 4-3 at Baba Yara Stadium.
