Guru Emerges Victorious In UGSRC Presidential Election
Maradona Adjei Yeboah, also known as Guru, is a musician who has won the SRC presidential election at the University of Ghana (UG).
Together, they received 9,455 of the 18,659 votes given for Jeffery Adu-Yeboah.
This occurs in response to a complaint filed by Asioh Joseph Mawuli, a second-year University of Ghana (UG) Bachelor of Arts student, against the university’s administration over the Student Representative Council (SRC) elections.
The re-entry of the musical icon Maradona Adjei Yeboah, also known as Guru NKZ, into the UGSRC presidential contest was followed by court action.
Guru had already been disqualified from the presidential contest and had filed a case against the Council’s Electoral Commission.
His non-resident status served as the basis for his disqualification, which is against Article 30. It is required by this article that candidates be eligible to run for a Junior Common Room (JCR) post in their hall and be residents on the campus.
Mawuli sought a declaration in his writ summons that the disqualification of Adjei Yeboah Maradona and Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah by the SRC vetting committee for not meeting the qualification criterion under Article 30(1)(a) of the SRC constitution was a valid and binding decision.
