In a match played on Matchday 3 at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday night, Hearts of Oak defeated Bechem United to earn their first victory of the 2024–25 Ghana Premier League season.
After losing their previous two games, the Phobians put up a much better show that ultimately ended their losing streak.
New signee, who had failed to hit the back of the net in their previous games Ransford Mensah’s incredible free kick from the edge of the box opened the scoring early in the second half.
In the 75th minute, Hearts’ top scorer from the previous campaign, Hamza Issah, added to the lead and sealed the victory with a perfectly placed goal.
Though there were a few defensive errors that briefly brought Bechem even at two points, the Phobians were clearly in control of the game overall.
This result is a tremendous relief for manager Aboubakar Ouattara, who has been under fire from supporters after the team’s dismal season opener.
Hearts of Oak will now look to gain momentum as they get ready to go to the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex to play Nations FC, while Bechem United—still without a win and without a goal after three games—will welcome Dreams FC in their next match.
