Hearts Of Oak Win 2024 Homowo Cup On Penalties Against Lions

After a nail-biting penalty shootout final, Hearts of Oak defeated Heart of Lions to win the 2024 Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Peace Cup.

Hearts of Oak overcame a late deficit to force penalties, and the game finished 1-1 after regulation.

Three minutes into the game, Heart of Lions’ Kwadwo Obeng Jr., a former forward, handed the Phobians an early lead.

The Phobians were behind 1-0 at the half.

But in the second half, Hearts of Oak rallied and produced an incredible comeback.

Two minutes before halftime, Mohammed Hussein equalized the score by taking advantage of a Ransford Mensah free kick that had rebounded and struck the crossbar.

After a 1-1 draw, the teams advanced to a penalty shootout. Hearts of Oak prevailed in the end, winning 8–7 on penalties.

One of the club’s last practices before the 2024–25 Ghana Premier League season, which is set to begin on September 6, is the Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Peace Cup.
