After Head Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum left, Asante Kotoko announced a significant change of its technical setup.
Following a dismal run of play in which the team went four games without a victory, the club officially announced Ogum’s departure.
Although he guided the Porcupine Warriors to the Ghana Premier League championship in his first term, recent setbacks caused pressure to rise and ultimately resulted in his departure.
After 28 games, Kotoko has 47 points and is presently ranked fourth in the league.
Abdul Karim Zito, a former player, has been named the club’s new Technical Director in reaction to the circumstances.
Zito comes back with a wealth of club and national experience. Among his accomplishments are coaching Ghana’s U-20 team to victory in the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and Dreams FC to the CAF Confederation Cup semifinals.
Until a permanent successor is found, Zito will also act as Acting Head Coach in addition to his new position.
Prince Yaw Owusu has also joined the team as an assistant coach. Having coached in Ghana, Sudan, and the US, Owusu is a seasoned tactician with more than 20 years of expertise.
His previous appointments include head coaching roles at Medeama SC, Inter Allies, and Khartoum National Club, as well as stints with Ghana’s U-17 and U-20 national teams.
Meanwhile, Malik Jabir, a former Technical Director, has been reassigned as Technical Advisor. In this strategic role, he will offer long-term guidance to support the club’s broader vision.
