Asante Kotoko defeated Samartex at Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon to record their first victory in eight games.
On matchday 27 of the Ghana Premier League, the Porcupine Warriors won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Enoch Morrison from the penalty spot.
Kotoko had lost six of their previous seven games and drawn one going into the match.
In contrast, Samartex enjoyed a five-point advantage at the top of the table going into the match.
The team led by Prosper Narteh Ogum got off to a better start in the match and had a few opportunities, but they were unable to convert them.
The superior team applied pressure on Kotoko as the league leaders entered the second half, but they were also unable to convert their opportunities.
However, in the 56th minute, a penalty was given to the home team.
Morrison put Kotoko ahead with a goal from the next spot kick.
The Timber Giants made a late push, but they were unable to tie the game, giving Kotoko the victory.
With five games remaining, the porcupines has risen back to 10th place in the league rankings as a result of the outcome.
Despite the losses on the road experienced by Nations FC and Aduana FC, Samartex currently leads the rankings with five points.
