Kotoko Scoring Issues Is Due Temperament Gap: Coach Ogum

Head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, feels that Kotoko’s low goal total is due to the boys’ different temperaments while scoring goals in practice than in actual games.

He made this statement in a post-match interview following Kotoko’s controversial 1-0 victory against FC Samartex to snap a seven-game losing streak. The game ended in a goalless draw between Kotoko and Medeama SC at Akoon Park in Tarkwa.

Kotoko’s Steven Mukwala scored the first goal in the 22nd minute, and Medeama’s Diawisie Taylor tied the score with a penalty kick in the 57th.

Dr. Ogum couldn’t help but concur that his team continuously falls short of reproducing the excellent goal-scoring form seen during practice in actual games after seeing his team lose opportunities in the draw.

What he said:

“It’s been happening throughout the season. We create a lot of chances but then the conversion is the issue. Interestingly too we’ve been training on it, at training they score a lot of goals but then the tempo and temperament of training and games are different.”

“I think we still need to work on it and be sure that the few chances that come our way we will be able to convert. The game is about scoring goals and once you score, it gives you the confidence.”

Next Friday, May 3, Kotoko plays Legon Cities.
