Mahama Starts Building Gonja ‘s Jakpa Palace

On Friday, April 26, 2024, John Dramani Mahama took part in the groundbreaking event for the construction of the Jakpa Palace in Damongo, the capital city of the Savannah Region, destined to serve as the residence for the Kings of Gonjas. Joined by the esteemed King of the Gonja kingdom, Yagbonwura Bi-Kunuto Jewu Soale, Mahama emphasized the project’s significance.

Addressing attendees during the ceremony held at Jakpa, Mahama conveyed confidence in the project’s progress by stating that financial resources were readily available. He reassured the audience by declaring, “Money is not a problem,” affirming that the contractor had received payment and the construction timeline aimed for completion by October.

He also noted that, drawing from historical accounts, the Gonjas originated from Mande, indicating that the design of the palace would embody elements of the Mande architectural style.

Yagbonwura Bi-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, addressing the audience in Gonja following the sod-cutting ceremony, expressed gratitude to Mr. Mahama for his dedicated efforts and extended blessings for his continued good health and success in all endeavors.

A group of enthusiastic supporters of the NDC were visibly present and expressed their joyous sentiments while present at the construction site.
