Real Madrid defeated Atalanta 2-0 in Warsaw to win the UEFA Super Cup, and Kylian Mbappe scored on his debut.
For Carlo Ancelotti’s team, who won the trophy for a record-breaking sixth time, Federico Valverde was also on target.
At Warsaw’s National Stadium, Mbappe had a quiet first half as Isak Hien blocked his shot in the 15th minute and the woodwork denied both teams inside the first 45 minutes.
In first-half stoppage time, Eder Militao deflected Marten de Roon’s cross against his own crossbar before Rodrygo hit the crossbar at the opposite end.
Within two minutes of the restart, Thibaut Courtois superbly palmed away Mario Pasalic’s header, giving Atalanta a chance.
But in the 59th minute, Madrid broke the deadlock as Vinicius Junior raced past Berat Djimsiti and squared for Valverde to tap into an empty net.
Though Juan Musso made an incredible save to keep out Vinicius and Jude Bellingham, Los Blancos increased their lead nine minutes later when Bellingham threaded a beautiful through ball for Mbappe to thump into the net.
