One-Week Memorial For Teddy Osei Of Osibisa Observed In Kumasi
Kyiriapatre, a community in the Asokwa Municipality of Ashanti Region, had a one-week memorial service for the late Teddy Osei, a well-known trumpet player and important member of the legendary band Osibisa.
Teddy Osei was a key player in the international music scene, particularly in the 1970s, thanks to his inventiveness in fusing jazz, rock, and traditional African music.
His contributions to global music and Afrobeat are still inspirational.
Teddy Osei, who was born in Kyiriapatre, played a key role in the creation of the highly regarded band Osibisa.
After a brief illness, he died in the UK at the age of 88, leaving behind three children.
Since he was the only one left of the band’s three original members after Sol Armafio and Mark Tontoh passed away, Osibisa’s passing signifies the end of an era.
His family reports that his remains, together with those of his older brother, Tony Suadwa, who died in the UK at the age of 93, would arrive in Accra on April 3.
His last internment will take place in Kyiriapatre.
The music industry, Teddy Osei’s family, and his fans will always be moved by his legacy.
