Richmond Lamptey, a midfielder for Asante Kotoko, has mutually parted ties with the Ghanaian team after a dismal 2023–24 season. He is expected to relocate to Rwanda.
Lamptey’s contract expires in two months, after which he will become a free agent.
According to reports, the former Inter Allies midfielder and Armée Patriotique Rwandaise FC (APR FC) have reached an agreement.
This week, Lamptey is anticipated to go to Rwanda for a medical assessment prior to signing a contract with APR FC.
Lamptey’s departure marks the 20th player to leave Asante Kotoko this off season, following the club’s decision to release 19 other players as part of a squad overhaul for the upcoming season.
Among the notable exits are Steven Mukwala, who is reportedly heading to Tanzania, as well as Danlad Ibrahim and Isaac Oppong, key figures from previous successful campaigns.
Richmond Lamptey joined Kotoko from Inter Allies in September 2021, contributing significantly to their Premier League triumph in his debut season.
He was also part of Black Stars’ squad that featured at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Côte d’Ivoire.
