Stephen Appiah, a former captain of the Black Stars, has declared his candidacy as an independent for the December 2024 elections.
In the elections in December, Appiah will run for the parliamentary seat in Ayawaso West Wuogon.
Close friend Fiifi Tackie, who also acts as the Ayew family spokesperson, revealed the shocking information.
Actor John Dumelo of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and current Member of Parliament Lydia Seyram Alhassan will be fierce rivals in Appiah’s race for office.
As captain of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah rose to prominence by guiding them to a historic World Cup qualifying in Germany in 2006.
He led the group as captain throughout their second World Cup qualifying campaign, which took place in South Africa in 2010.
Appiah played for Ghana at all levels during his career, from junior to senior teams.
In addition to Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League, he also played for Juventus, Udinese, Parma, Brescia, Fenerbahçe, Cesena, and Vojvodina.
He scored 15 goals and received 67 caps with the Black Stars overall.
