For the balance of the current 2024–2025 Ghana Premier League season, Kumasi Asante Kotoko has declared that it will be returning to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Baba Yara Stadium was deemed unsuitable to host international matches by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), forcing the Porcupine Warriors to move to the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium. This ruling came after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications between Ghana and Angola.
The stadium was then briefly shuttered by the National Sports Authority (NSA) to allow for upgrades.
Kotoko is expected to start playing its home games at the storied location as these improvements are finished.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, November 28, the club expressed its excitement about the return:
“We are pleased to announce our return to the Baba Yara Stadium for our remaining home matches of the season. This decision was made following an official communication confirming the completion of maintenance work at our historic home venue,” the statement read.
This announcement also indicates that when the Ghana Premier League returns following the elections on December 7, Baba Yara Sports Stadium will host the season’s first Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak in the Matchday 13 games.
