NPP Demands Chairman Wontumi’s Immediate Acquittal After Court of Appeal Ruling in Sedina Tamakloe Case

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the immediate acquittal and discharge of its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The demand follows a Court of Appeal ruling delivered on Thursday, July 30, 2026, in favor of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu.

In a statement issued after the ruling, the NPP questioned why the Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Ankamah, ruled in favor of Sedina Tamakloe despite what it described as overwhelming evidence supporting charges, including theft and money laundering.

According to the party, the Court of Appeal’s decision raises serious concerns and reinforces its belief that Chairman Wontumi’s conviction was politically motivated.

The NPP argued that Chairman Wontumi’s conviction and 20-year prison sentence with hard labour were secured without sufficient evidence and should therefore be overturned.

The statement further noted that Wontumi’s legal team has already filed more than 20 grounds of appeal challenging the conviction before the Court of Appeal.

Part of the statement reads:

“Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Chairman Wontumi, the Regional Chairman of the NPP, must be acquitted and discharged. His conviction and the outrageous sentence of 20 years imprisonment with hard labour were politically motivated and procured without sufficient evidence, a fact his lawyers have set out in more than twenty grounds of appeal now pending before the Court of Appeal.”

The NPP insists that justice must be served and is urging the Court of Appeal to acquit and discharge Chairman Wontumi as it considers his appeal.
