7-Member committee to reorganise CPP structures.
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has inaugurated a seven-member committee to steer the process of reorganising the party’s structures across the country.
This is to help reposition the party towards winning political power in Ghana and to undertake, as the Council of Elders described, a serious constitutional exercise to put the party’s structures in order.
The committee members are acting Chairman, Moses Amadu Yahaya; acting first Chairperson, Joyce Osei Owusu Larbie; acting second Vice Chairperson for Reorganisation, John Lloyd Ayayee; acting General Secretary, Harold Stephen Ato Eshun; acting Deputy General Secretary, Dr Kojo Polley-Kwofie; acting Diaspora Chairman, Frank Owusu Baah and the acting Liaison Officer, Samuel Yaw Asamoah.
The committee is expected to work with the Council of Elders to reorganise the party from the polling station level through the electoral areas, constituencies, regions and the national level, as stipulated in Chapter 4 of the party’s constitution and in line with Ghana’s electoral laws.
Reorganisation
Speaking at the inauguration last Thursday, the Chairman of the Council of Elders, Felix Amoah, said the exercise was necessary because the party was not operating in normal times and faced the daunting task of putting its house in order.
He expressed appreciation to the previous acting national officers who had steered the party’s affairs.
He said the team, headed by Wing Commander Nelson Patrick Sorgborgor, had served the party for the past 19 months.
Mr Amoah urged the newly sworn-in acting officers to support the council in properly constituting the party structures so that the CPP could present itself to the people of Ghana as a party ready to champion a political agenda on behalf of the masses.
He said the CPP remained a political party for the masses and was committed to continuing what he described as the unfinished political processes after independence.
Mr Amoah said one of the tasks ahead of the working committee would be to bring comrades from the regions and constituencies on board, harnessing their commitment, volunteerism, dedication and selflessness to carry out the reorganisation exercise.
He called on party members not to remain on the fence but to be active players in moving the party forward.
Nkrumahism
For his part, a former chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, said the meeting was not only about reorganisation but about reclaiming a legacy, restoring a movement and renewing the vision that once ignited hope across Africa and the Black world.
