GHPL MD 31: Kotoko Smashes Hearts of Oak

Matchday 31 of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League featured some surprising results. The highlight was the clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak at Baba Yara Stadium.

On Saturday, Accra Lions shocked Bechem United with a 3-0 win at Accra Sports Stadium. Dominic Amponsah scored in the 13th minute, Mohammed Yahaya added another in the 71st minute, and Daniel Awuni sealed the victory in the 78th minute.

Aduana FC narrowly beat Nations FC 1-0 at Nana Agyemang Badu Park, with Yussif Alhassan Chibsah scoring the winning goal for the two-time Premier League champions.

Karela United defeated Nsoatreman FC 2-1 at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex. Welbeck Takyi scored first for Karela in the 16th minute, but Nsoatreman equalized through Collins Kudjoe ten minutes after halftime. Karela regained the lead with captain Mohammed Fatawu’s goal in the 63rd minute.

On Sunday, Asante Kotoko added to Hearts of Oak’s troubles with a 2-0 victory. Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala scored both goals at Baba Yara Stadium.

Great Olympics secured a 3-2 victory over Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Isaac Mensah scoring in the 25th minute. Stephen Amankona equalized for Chelsea in the 63rd minute, but Albert Amoah clinched the winner in the 85th minute.

Bibiani Gold Stars secured a 2-1 victory over Dreams FC at DUN’s Park, with Alex Aso breaking the deadlock in the 47th minute.

Bofoakwa Tano were defeated 2-0 by Medeama SC at the Sunyani Coronation Park, with an own goal by Andrews Kwadwo Appau in the 45th minute.

Real Tamale United secured a 1-0 win over Legon Cities at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex.

Heart of Lions defeated league leaders FC Samartex with a 2-0 win at the Kpando Sports Stadium, with Ebenezer Abban scoring twice in the 87th and 90th minutes. FC Samartex, Aduana FC, Medeama SC, and Nations FC currently hold the top four positions, while Great Olympics, Bofoakwa Tano, and Real Tamale United are in the relegation zone.
