Morocco Pulls Out of 2023 CHAN Tournament Just a Day To Kick off

North African side, Morocco has pulled out of the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) just a day before the start of the competition.

The tournament will be held in Algeria and will kick off tomorrow January 13th, 2023, and the defending champions Morocco will not be taking part.

The reason is that there is political tension between the Atlas Lions B team and the host nation Algeria. According to reports, the two North African countries are fighting over an island.

Morocco’s Football Federation had mentioned they were going to withdraw from the title defence until they are allowed a direct flight from Rabat.

Their decision to withdraw from the tournament is due to Algeria’s decision. The Algerians will not let the Atlas Lions B fly directly from Rabat to Constantine.

The rivalry between the two North African countries has been on for ages since 1994 and became worst in 2021. Algeria and Morroco have banned each other from flying in their airspace.

The Black Galaxies of Ghana are in the same group as the title holders.
