Bibiani Gold Stars Chief Executive Officer Akwasi Adu believes the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should wait until after the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers before deciding the future of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz.
The experienced Portuguese tactician was appointed on a short-term contract ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America after replacing Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties in March following a disappointing run of results.
Queiroz guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the World Cup, marking the first time the four-time African champions had reached that phase of the tournament since 2010.
Following Ghana’s World Cup campaign, the former Iran and Egypt coach appeared to suggest his departure from the Black Stars in a social media post, sparking speculation about his future.
However, Queiroz later dismissed reports that he had resigned, insisting that he had not stepped down from his position.
While President John Dramani Mahama has called on authorities to persuade the 73-year-old coach to continue in the role, Akwasi Adu believes his future should be assessed based on Ghana’s performance in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.
“Decision on sacking Carlos Queiroz should be considered after AFCON qualifiers,” Adu told Asempa FM.
The Black Stars are now preparing for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, which begin in September, with Ghana drawn in Group C alongside Gambia, Ivory Coast and Somalia.
Akwasi Adu believes the qualifiers will provide a clearer picture of Queiroz’s suitability to lead the team beyond the World Cup period.
