A 17-year-old student in Guinea has died after being jailed for allegedly cheating during the country’s national school-leaving examination, a case that has sparked public outrage and renewed debate over how examination malpractice is punished.
The teenager, identified as Mamadou Djouma Bah, was reportedly sentenced to one month in prison after authorities found him guilty of using a mobile phone during the national exams.
Reports indicate that Bah, who was living with sickle cell disease, became critically ill while serving his sentence. As his condition worsened, prison officials transferred him to a hospital for urgent medical care.
Despite receiving treatment, he later died from complications related to his illness.
