Ghana midfielder is getting closer to full fitness

Mohammed Kudus is getting closer to full fitness - Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus is edging closer to a return to competitive action after a lengthy injury layoff.

Kudus has been sidelined since sustaining a quadriceps injury during Tottenham’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Sunderland in January. The setback forced the 25-year-old attacker off the pitch early and kept him out of action for several months.

The former West Ham United star had initially looked set for a comeback after making significant progress in his recovery and returning to full training. However, his rehabilitation suffered a setback after he picked up another issue, delaying his return.

The recurrence ruled him out of Tottenham’s final seven league fixtures and also prevented him from featuring for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite the frustrating spell on the sidelines, Kudus is now close to regaining full fitness and is expected to rejoin full team training once Tottenham return to London after their pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia.

Speaking ahead of Spurs’ pre-season friendly against Auckland FC, De Zerbi revealed that the Ghana international is making positive progress and could soon be available for selection.

“Kudus is very close. I think when we come back to London he will be available to start working with us,” the Italian coach said.

De Zerbi also emphasised the importance of having the versatile attacker back in his squad ahead of the new campaign.

“It’s a great thing for us. Kudus is another important player,” he added.

Kudus will now be hoping to put his injury struggles behind him and return to his best form as he looks to become a key figure in De Zerbi’s plans at Tottenham.

With the new season approaching, Spurs will be counting on the Ghanaian’s creativity, versatility and attacking quality to strengthen their push for success.
