Ghanaian media personality, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart has called for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to be scrapped, describing it as a “useless institution” following the release of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, which have been widely criticized as poor.
Speaking in the studios of Onua TV, Captain Smart argued that WAEC has negatively affected the lives of many people across Africa through its examination system.
“We need to cancel WAEC. It’s a useless institution. Most people in Africa whose lives were destroyed were destroyed because of WAEC,” he said.
His remarks have generated mixed reactions on social media, with some Ghanaians supporting his call for major reforms to the examination system, while others defended WAEC and attributed the poor results to broader challenges within the education sector.
