MultiChoice announce a transition plan

Showmax shuts down April 30 as DStv Stream rolls out discounted access.
MultiChoice Ghana has announced a transition plan that will see subscribers of Showmax gain temporary access to a broader entertainment offering on DStv Stream, as the company consolidates its streaming services into a single platform.
Under the arrangement, eligible Showmax users will receive trial access to the DStv Stream Compact package until the end of May 2026. The move forms part of a wider strategy to merge Showmax Originals with live television, sports and an expanded catalogue of international and local content within one application.
After the trial period, customers who opt to remain on the platform will be required to pay GH¢75 per month for 12 months, subject to maintaining an active subscription and being up to date with payments. The discounted rate represents a significant reduction compared to standard pricing for the Compact bouquet.
The integration is expected to offer subscribers a richer viewing experience, combining on-demand content with live programming, including sports coverage from SuperSport, international films and series, children’s programming and local productions. Additional features on DStv Stream include offline downloads, data management tools and a “Watch From Start” option.
The company said the transition was driven by the need to provide customers with a unified destination for entertainment, bringing together thousands of hours of Showmax Originals and an expanded on-demand library alongside live content.
Existing DStv Compact, Compact Plus and Premium subscribers will also benefit from access to Showmax content on DStv Stream at no extra cost.
Eligible Showmax subscribers, including those without an active DStv subscription, will receive details of the offer via email linked to their accounts. However, customers already accessing Showmax through DStv subscriptions or billing arrangements are excluded from the promotion.
Subscribers who wish to continue after the trial period will be required to sign up to DStv Stream and create a new profile, while those who choose not to migrate may request refunds for unused portions of their Showmax subscriptions, subject to terms and conditions. Auto-renewal payments will cease once the service is discontinued.
As part of the transition, the current Showmax platform will be phased out on April 30, 2026, with its original content migrating fully to DStv Stream.
The new platform will also host a range of headline content, including the true-crime series The People vs VBS, ongoing episodes of Law, Love and Betrayal, and live sporting events such as the Soweto Derby scheduled for April 26.
