The government of Canada will hear the case involving Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey and its immigration over the player’s visa denial.
The 32-year-old was denied visa by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada over allegations of rape and sexual assault. The Vilarreal man has been accused of seven counts of rape and sexual assault by multiple women. Partey has denied all charges.
The decision to refuse the midfielder visa before the case is concluded forced Ghana’s government to appeal, leading to a hearing in an Ottawa court on Tuesday.
A final decision will be made on Partey’s fate despite not travelling with the team to Canada for the opening game against Panama.
Should he be cleared, the midfielder will travel to Toronto on Tuesday to join his teammates as Carlos Queiroz prepares his team for the game against Panama.
Meanwhile, with about 48 hours left for the game against Panama, the various parties are expected to find a solution to the problem.
The Black Stars will hold a final training session at the BMO Field in Toronto before their crucial encounter with Panama.
Ghana will be hoping to get off to a winning start against the group’s less-fancied side.
