Mnangagwa praises Ghana’s key role in Zimbabwe’s independence struggle.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has paid tribute to Ghana’s historic role in his country’s fight for independence, describing its support as instrumental in the liberation struggle.
Speaking at a State Banquet hosted in his honour by President John Dramani Mahama on April 1, Mr Mnangagwa recalled Ghana’s significance as a training base for Zimbabwean freedom fighters during the struggle against colonial rule.
“Most of my colleagues received training here in Ghana for the armed liberation of Zimbabwe. We are forever grateful to Ghana,” he said.
The Zimbabwean leader is currently on a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new avenues for cooperation between the two nations, particularly in trade and investment.
President Mahama, in his remarks, reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening ties with Zimbabwe, highlighting the enduring friendship rooted in shared history and mutual respect.
